Whistler listens to anything you play to it: humming, tapping, table drumming, beat-boxing, singing, existing music and, of course, whistling. Whistler then moulds it into glorious instrumental form.
Live playing of instruments. An orchestra of instruments, bashes, basses and bleeps. Load your own external instruments and FX (Audio Units, VSTi).
Whistler isn’t just about notes and chords. Tapping, drumming and beat-boxing can be turned into a mighty drum kit.
A slickly animated interface pulses and hums visually. Animating icons, glowing elements and particle FX show visually what Whistler is hearing. Need timing help? Whistler can pulse a beat based on your clapping, flashing your MacBook keyboard in time. A high tech 3D spectrograph visualises exactly what Whistler hears.
Don't have a MIDI keyboard for GarageBand? Frustrated at your playing ability? Whistler can utilise industry standards to route all the nuances of your performance into MIDI for GarageBand or almost any professional music application (Logic, Pro Tools, Ableton Live, Cubase, Reason) by exporting a MIDI file or by creating a MIDI device for instant routing into the sequencer.
Don’t want to buy expensive MIDI converters for wind instruments or guitars? Whistler can listen to your guitar, trumpet, flute, oboe, didgeridoo, harp, meowing cats, singing parrots, kitchen utensil drum kit or bongos. Anything that makes a sound!
Auto Tuning. Either select a musical key, or play some notes or song to Whistler and it will keep you in tune.
Auto Chords. Based on your notes, Whister can automatically create chords of any type. An Arpeggiator will play your chords in a wide variety of styles.
Auto Progression. Whistler has a built in library of classic, time tested chord progressions and chord maps. Whistler will create highly satisfying musical sequences, following your cue.
Select a mood, ‘Happy’, ‘Sad’, ‘Jazzy’, ‘Uplifting’, ‘Epic’ or
‘Cinematic’. Define your own progressions or download others.
Auto Timing. Are your beats too loose? Or not loose enough? Whistler has quantising to keep perfectly in time or perfectly funky.
Transposing. Extend your musical range up and down to hit those high notes and nail that bass.
Built in synaesthesic sequencer, codename 'Soundscape'.
A rotating, pulsing sphere materialises over your desktop, made up of layers. Each layer represents a different instrument. As it rotates, your music is etched onto the surface in explosions of colour. Use the mouse to manipulate the soundscape, morphing your music over time. A large set of pre-built soundscapes will let you quickly record a tune in an entirely new freeform and inspiring way. For example, quickly select an 'ambient' soundscape to record an ambient piece. Soundscape is a new type of sequencer and a fun way for everyone to easily experiment with music.
An included screensaver plays your soundscapes, filling your desktop with colour and sound.
Whistler can read any Quicktime audio file. Recorded a tune on your mobile phone? Bluetooth it to your Mac and give it to Whistler. Export to MIDI, wav, aiff, aac & MP3.
Play along with iTunes songs. Whistler can analyse the song
beforehand, setting itself up for perfect accompaniment.
A set of simple lessons to help you develop your listening and performance skills. See how well you can play or sing along with your iTunes songs.
Set up audio and video iChat sessions with friends. Collaborate on Whistler compositions. Use video chat to see your friends in your soundscape.
Advanced MIDI setup. Route MIDI data in anyway you want. Manipulate audio and MIDI in creative ways. Whistler's raw audio-to-MIDI engine is there to be used and abused.
